The other day I (Brooke) was guided to watch an interview with musical group New Edition and Sherri Shepherd. Those of you who know me, know that I am not in touch with pop culture at all, so this was my very first time to hear of the group. As they walked in I saw the audience go wild. I remember thinking, “These guys must be a big deal”. Of course during the show my thought was confirmed. I found out that their documentary had more than 39 million views. Plus they have performed together for 40 years.
Sherri asked the secret of their longevity. Mike answered by saying, “We pray together a lot.” Now I knew why I was directed to this particular show. They mentioned that they started when they were 12 or 13 years old and now they were in their 50’s. They felt their fans had grown up with them, and the group believed that they had jumped hurdles. They humbly shared that their success was beyond what they could have planned. When they talked about each other the respect jumped off the screen.
After the interview I contemplated their success and felt elevated by getting to know them. Hearing about their faith and the fact that they realized their music was a business made me think of Serenity, and how it is a faith based business. The hurdles which we have jumped could not have been done without you all. We appreciate you so much.
