The other day when I was led to watch the Drew Barrymore Show, I thought it was for the pure joy of seeing her “do her thing”. Of course many, many years ago I fell in love with her when I first saw her adorable face on the screen during the movie E.T.
In one episode she had three high school kids that had started an initiative of saving extra food during lunch and taking it to a local shelter. One of the kids had noticed that almost always food was being thrown out. An apple here, an orange there, it added up. He went through the proper channels and set up a table where the students could set the food aside instead of throwing it in the trash. Then they transported this overage to a shelter.
In another episode she talked about a woman who had seen an empty city lot and turned it into a garden. Not only was it beautiful, but during COVID it fed a large group of families.
Getting to watch these two stories kind of reiterated for me that each one of us can make a difference right where we are planted (pun intended with the garden). A small idea with follow through can make a change for the positive, and isn’t that what we are looking for right now.
Happy Father’s Day to all you Dads out there. Come in and treat yourself to something good. You certainly deserve it!
