The other day I (Brooke) was blessed enough to have lunch with a dear friend at P.F. Changs. I remember feeling so grateful to be in a restaurant across the table from someone that not only I care about, but respect and admire. I have noticed that there was so much that I took for granted before this whole Covid thing.
As I was making a decision on what to order, I found two appetizers that looked yummy, and I couldn’t make up my mind. I shared my dilemma, and she shared her idea of, it’s an AND world not an OR world. She said she had seen a Pepsi commercial where a young boy was trying to decide between two wonderful things and someone reminded him that he could have both.
I had an aha moment. First of all, we decided to order both appetizers and share them, but so much more than that unfolded for me. In an infinite Universe that loves us and there is no lack, why wouldn’t we be able to have our cake and eat it too? Frankly, what is the point of having a cake if you can’t eat it?
I remember the Einstein comment when he said, “there is no waste motion in the Universe.” This simple decision over a menu opened up a whole new way of receiving the world for me. If there is a choice to be made between two amazing things I am not asking for too much to allow both. As a matter of fact, A Course in Miracles says, “You do not ask for too much, but too little”. Luke 12:32 states, “It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom”. We were both drinking iced tea, but we toasted anyway.
