DECEMBER 2022

Greetings from all of us here at Serenity Now.

The other day I (Brooke) was led to watch a movie that left my heart wide open. It’s animated, which in a way reminded me of being a kid, watching cartoons on Saturday mornings, and feeling safe. No wonder the Bible says you must become like little children to enter the kingdom of heaven. Children’s receptivity is next level.

The movie is called Spies in Disguise. It’s about a young boy who is extremely intelligent, loves science, and wants to invent gadgets that keep his mom safe. She is a police woman. His name is Walter. The thing about his gadgets is that they are not intended to harm. For example, he uses glitter to distract. Of course his use of glitter and such makes him a target for bullies.

When he grows up through a plot twist, he becomes involved with a spy who is all about safety, but at any cost. They both had safety as their goal but their methods were way different.

At one point the spy wants Walter to invent destructive weapons and says, “we have to fight fire with fire”. Walter replies by saying, “but then we all get burned”. The spy tries to argue by saying that they can’t let the bad guys win and Walter says “there are no bad guys and good guys, just people”.

Of course I don’t want to give away the ending of the movie, but it gave me a new perspective on a lot that’s going on.
