The other day I (Brooke) was guided to a video by Matthew McConaughey. He was talking about the time when his son was about to be born. He was trying to decide on the perfect name. First he had thought to name him Matthew, but decided against it. Then he thought that he could name him Levi, which means Matthew. He also liked the name because of its roots in the Bible. Somewhere in the narrative he mentioned that Matthew 6:22 was his favorite Bible verse. I didn’t know what this part of the story had to do with him naming his son, but I shrugged my shoulders and rolled with it. On the day that the little one was born, they brought him the baby and the birth certificate. He said that the portion with the name was still blank, but the time said 6:22. When he saw the numbers he took it as a sign to name the child Levi.
When I heard this story I felt inspired. I consciously look for these moments, when the Universe gives us signs. I call them breadcrumbs. I have a habit of collecting these stories. Jay Leno collects cars, and I collect true stories which remind me that the Universe is for us and is actively taking care of us. So I wrote the story down, dated it, and went about the rest of my day. A few days later I came across the note and saw that I had received the information on June 22nd. Earlier I had not seen that the date was actually 6/22. I found myself smiling at what I could have called a “coincidence”, but I know better. Later that day I came to work at Serenity and mentioned the story to a couple of our staff (that I know are angels on earth). We wanted to look the verse up, but for one reason or another never got the chance.
The next day one of these beautiful staff angels walked in, obviously very excited. She said that the night before she was reading a book. The author mentions Matthew 6:22 and quotes it right then and there. The words she found significant and couldn’t wait to share with us were these, “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy your whole body is filled with light.” Also A Course In Miracles says, “Above all else I want to see”. This situation reminded me that there was no way I could have controlled any of this. So the next time I feel I have to manipulate or control a situation, I can remember God has got this!
