Born in 1946 in Wadsworth, Ohio, the author, James Rist claims a rich heritage from his parents and family, who came from small towns and humble beginnings in the Ohio River Valley. His perspective often draws from the metaphoric influence of the Ohio River. James Rist graduated from the University of Akron in 1972, and he currently resides in Tarpon Springs, FL. Despite the mire of mental illness and alcoholism, through a period of 45 years, the author has practiced the art of writing and has produced hundreds of pages of fiction, short stories, poems and personal experiences. Mr. Rist maintains an internet site, "Cerebral Storm," in conjunction with Blessed To Be Bonkers to encourage open communication in the matter of bipolar disorder and addiction and he favors the art of writing as an adjunct to treatment for mood disorders. Mr. RIst also engages a sustained effort to network with others, both bipolar and addicted, in an attempt to serve the needs of those others and to maintain his own focus on recovery.
